Mounted officersThe Palm Springs Police Department Mounted Enforcement Unit (MEU) consists of sworn police officers who volunteer their time for extra duty on horseback. The Mounted Enforcement Unit is used for crowd control functions, high visibility enforcement for special events, and for public relations.

Formed in 1995, the MEU has become a valuable asset to the Palm Springs Police Department and always attracts attention when they're used at a downtown function.

The unit consists of three city-owned horses and three privately-owned horses. The MEU is funded by private donations and the support of local residents. The three city-owned horses have been purchased using donated funds or were donated to the City.

The MEU officers and their mounts have received training from personnel in the elite Los Angeles Police Department Metro Unit.
