The Military History of the Salton Sea

Discover the fascinating but little known history of the World War II Navy Base at the Salton Sea and its post-war use by the Atomic Energy Commission. Retired educator Sid Burks will share historical photographs and more! The lecture will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Cornelia White Community Room at the Welwood Murray Memorial Library (WMML) located at 100 S. Palm Canyon Dr. in downtown Palm Springs. Sid Burks is a retired community college teacher and administrator and he currently teaches full-time for Cal State San Bernardino. He is a serious enthusiast of military, aviation and desert history. He’s given many lectures throughout the Coachella Valley on aviation and military history.
