Lecture:
“Veterinary Cannabis 101: The Basics”
Presented by Mark Smollin, Veterinary Technician, Hospital Manager, and certified Veterinary Cannabis Counselor. Learn more about important considerations when deciding to use of cannabis for your pets health. This lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. in The Learning Center. This program is presented in partnership with the Certified Farmers’ Market, a Palm Springs Cultural Center event.
Marc Smollin is the son of a veterinarian, Dr. Richard Smollin. He started working for his father's practice in Los Angeles, at the Winnetka Animal Clinic, when he was just 13 years old. Now, at 41, he has been the business manager for the past 20 years. A couple of years ago he started noticing a lot more cannabis-related questions coming into the clinic. After doing some research, he found that they couldn't actually advise our clients about use in pets. As a result, he started looking at alternative ways they could bring the conversation to those interested clients. He became a certified Veterinary Cannabis Counselor in 2018 and has been advising clients associated with his hospital and other local clinics. He found great success using cannabis, especially with the cancer and epileptic patients. Cannabis is a great opportunity to open up previously non-existent dialogues about veterinary medicine with clients. He is particularly focused on the goals and expectations of pet parents and how cannabis may or may not meet those goals.
