West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation has proposed this project – Agave at Palm Canyon - for low income seniors ages 62 and above. The site consists of two contiguous City-owned parcels located near the southwest corner of N. Palm Canyon Drive and W. Stevens Road in the Old Las Palmas Neighborhood, and adjacent to the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood.
As proposed, Agave at Palm Canyon will feature 71 one-bedroom units in a two-story structure with lush desert landscaping. The proposed amenities include a resident community room, gym/ fitness room, laundry room, and private outdoor open space for residents. A 3,000 – 4,000 square foot commercial space facing North Palm Canyon Drive is also proposed. The project architect, 64North Architecture, aims to honor the neighborhood’s midcentury modern heritage. There will also be two full-time onsite building managers. As at all WHCHC affordable apartment communities, voluntary comprehensive supportive services will be available on-site and free of charge to all residents. WHCHC has partnered with Desert AIDS Project (DAP) to provide these critical services that keep people housed. The project will be built to LEED Silver standards
It is anticipated that the plans for this project will be submitted in September. There will be more opportunities for residents to provide their comments as the project is reviewed by the Planning Commission and City Council later this year in November and December.
Residents who cannot participate are invited to provide public comment via email by contacting Jay Virata at jay.virata@palmspringsca.gov.
