Jose Sarria Exhibit: Legendary Drag Queen and LGBTQ+ Activist (1922 – 2013)
A legend of the San Francisco drag scene. Out and Latino, Sarria dedicated his life to fight for LGBTQ+ rights and even ran as the country’s first known openly gay candidate for public office. An international drag charity that he helped found continues his legacy with legendary drag galas to this day. A special exhibit will be on display at the Welwood Murray Memorial Library in the main room during the hours the Welwood Murray Memorial Library is open. A representative from the Jose Sarria Foundation will be on site daily and there will be special lectures and film screenings scheduled. Come see the exhibit and learn more about this trailblazer.
