BIO:
Chef Tanya has one mission: to make vegan food taste good! During college in the 1980s, Chef Tanya learned how to make seitan and fresh cultured tempeh. This created a vision to create a multi-restaurant concept serving vegan food. In the 1990’s Chef Tanya opened her first restaurant in Palm Springs called MT Plate. It’s the first all-vegetarian restaurant in the Coachella Valley showcasing house-made seitan and tempeh gourmet dishes. In 1994 her new concept, Native Foods, opens in Palm Springs serving her tempeh and seitan. Many well-intentioned friends caution her to add chicken and fish to the menu in order to “make-it”. She does not heed such advice! During 1996-2012 Chef Tanya opens her second Native Foods location in Palm Desert, followed by locations in Westwood, Costa Mesa and Aliso Viejo. Equity is raised and locations open in So Cal, Portland, OR and Chicago, IL. Native Foods becomes the first national plant-based chain. From 2013-16 Chef Tanya seeks inspiration for her next venture and travels to India for yoga and Nepal to save elephants. Upon her return she joins the board for the Palm Springs Animal Shelter to help to turn it into a no-kill shelter and start a feral cat program. In 2017 Chef Tanya’s Kitchen was born. Starting as a manufacturing facility for tempeh and seitan, it expanded into a takeout deli and curated marketplace where the Cubano and Chupacabra make sandwich history. The CTK Tempeh Power Burger was born! Chef Tanya’s Kitchen is located in Palm Springs at 706 S Eugene Rd, Palm Springs, CA 92264 and was inspired by her love for good food, nature and the animal kingdom.
