A close look at fascinating lives under the microscope in magnificent new memoirs.


Moderated by Meredith MaranMeredith Maran is the author of a dozen nonfiction books, most recently The New Old Me, and an acclaimed novel. She writes features, op-eds, essays, and book reviews for venues including The New York Times, The Washington Post, O Magazine, and The LA Times. A member of the National Book Critics Circle and a passionate proponent of independent presses, bookstores, and thought, Meredith divides her time between her partner’s home in sultry Cathedral City and her historic bungalito in Silver Lake, Los Angeles.

 

 

 

 


Chris BelcherChris Belcher is a writer, professor, and former sex worker. She completed a PhD in English at the University of Southern California, where she now teaches Gender and Sexuality Studies and in the Writing Program. Under her working name, Natalie West, she edited the acclaimed anthology We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival (Feminist Press 2021). Her debut memoir, Pretty Baby, is out now from Simon & Schuster /Avid Reader Press. Born and raised in West Virginia, she now lives with her partner in Altadena, CA.

 

 

 


Omar Sharif Jr. (Photo credit Thomas Synnamon)Omar Sharif Jr. is an Egyptian-Canadian actor and model who currently lives in the United States. He is the grandson of Omar Sharif, the actor. He is widely considered to be one of the first openly gay public figures in the Arab world.  A Tale of Two Omars:  A Memoir of Family, Revolution, and Coming Out During the Arab Spring is his first book.

 

 

 

 


Josh TrujilloJosh Trujillo is a writer of comic books and video games based in Los Angeles. He has worked with clients including Marvel, HBO, Google, Telltale Games, Netflix, and DC Comics, among others. His latest work, Washington's Gay General: The Legends and Loves of Baron von Steuben, explores the life of the iconic American Revolutionary War general through a queer lens.
