Lecture: Library Week Through Film

Celebrating National Library Week Through Film

Presented by Deserted Films.

Libraries (i.e. public, university, corporate, K-12 schools) figure prominently in film and television. Melissa and Devin (of Deserted Films) have assembled a fun and informative clip-tour through some memorable library moments and will offer up some fun archival surprises as well! You know…because they are Deserted Films!

A hiding place? The key to one’s identity? The solution to a mystery? A crime scene? A site of empowerment and enlightenment? An impenetrable fortress? A personal sanctuary?

Libraries are shorthand for all of these ideas and many more. Let’s get a sense of what libraries have come to mean in film and media. The history might surprise you! Then comb through the stacks at the Palm Springs Public Library for these and other examples. Deserted Films will provide a handy guide!

Deserted Films is a non-profit created by local residents and film experts Melissa Dollman and Devin Orgeron. They are dedicated to collecting, caring for and making accessible films shot in the general Palm Springs area — as well as Southern California, surrounding desert regions. Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs) are instruments designed to amplify sounds to make it easier for persons who are hearing‑impaired to enjoy a library program.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the City of Palm Springs, should contact the ADA Coordinator, as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.
