Snakes!

Presented by Paisley Ramstead in Partnership with the Oswit Land Trust. 

Paisley Ramstead will talk about why snakes are so abundant in the Southern California desert region, what their role is in local ecosystems, and some of the threats to local snakes - and why locals should be interested in protecting snakes (including venomous rattlesnakes)! The talk will cover an introduction to some of the more common snakes found throughout the Coachella Valley, how to identify venomous vs. nonvenomous species, and how to stay safe while recreating outdoors during snake season.  

Paisley Ramstead is a biologist in the Coachella Valley and Morongo Basin with professional experience in field biology, conservation land management and educational programming. Growing up in Palm Springs, she had maintained a lifelong interest in desert wildlife with a particular interest in local snake biodiversity. Paisley now teaches the Snakes of Joshua Tree National Park course through the Desert Institute, operates the popular Facebook group 760 Reptile Appreciation and volunteers as a rattlesnake wrangler in Twentynine Palms and an advocate for snakes at many outreach events under the name 760 Snake Club.
