A community's permit file must have an official record that shows new buildings and substantial improvements in all identified Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs)are properly elevated. This elevation information is needed to show compliance with the floodplain management ordinance. FEMA encourages communities to use the Elevation Certificate developed by FEMA to fulfill this requirement since it also can be used by the property owner to obtain flood insurance. Communities participating in the Community Rating System (CRS) are required to use the FEMA Elevation Certificate Information. However, homeowners are NOT REQUIRED to supply the local community with their Elevation Certificate.

If you feel that you are well above the base flood elevation shown on the FEMA firm map, you can hire a professional land surveyor to survey your property and fill out an Elevation Certificate.

This may reduce or remove the need for flood insurance on your property. For condo owners, if your unit is on the second floor or higher, you must prove that the first floor is above the base flood elevation.

The City of Palm Springs has elevation certificates for structures within Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA). Certificates are categorized by STREET NAME_STREET NUMBER_DATE OF CERTIFICATE. If you don't find your address under this list, check the Flood Map Adjustments webpage.
