Community Risk Reduction Mission Statement

The Palm Springs Community Risk Reduction division is dedicated to preventing fires through public education, fire inspections, enforcement and comprehensive fire investigations in order to reduce the loss of life and property as well as to protect the environment thereby improving the quality of life for our community. We endeavor to create a progressive and safe environment that benefits all.

Activities And Their Objectives:

  • Enforce state, county and local fire codes.

  • Development review of new construction for compliance with adopted fire codes.

  • Perform field inspections ensure buildings are constructed according to plans and all fire protection systems are operational.

  • Participate in community fire defense planning including recently state mandated vegetation clearing requirements in wild-land urban interface properties designated by the state as "Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones".

  • Public Fire Prevention Education.

  • Special event activities involving the Fire Department program and functions.

  • Perform required inspections of multi-family dwellings, hotels, motels, lodging houses, dormitories, jails and schools for fire code compliance.

  • Investigate citizen reports of fire hazards.
