The Palm Springs Police Honor Guard was added in 1997 at the suggestion of Captain Gary Boswell, now retired. The honor guard performs ceremonies at funerals, opening ceremonies, meetings and conventions, parades (including last year's Veteran's Day parade), and other events.

All members of the Honor Guard have regular assignments and volunteer for this duty in addition to their other responsibilities. When forming the Honor Guard detail, the original members called upon the expertise of several officers who had extensive military backgrounds.
