Property Release

Property is released Monday through Thursday BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

For FOUND, RECOVERED or property held for SAFEKEEPING:

Call the Property Room at (760) 323-8122 or email us at property@palmspringsca.gov.  Leave a message with ALL of the following information:

  • Property owner's name
  • Telephone number
  • Report number
  • Name of article (i.e. handbag, laptop, etc.)

Your call will be returned, at which time an appointment will be made for you to retrieve your property.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT YOU MUST HAVE A PHOTO ID (unless the property you are retrieving is your photo ID).

For property held as EVIDENCE:

  • Contact the detective assigned to your case PRIOR to contacting the Property Room.  If the property is required for trial / court, you may not be able to retrieve it prior to adjudication.
  • If the detective assigned to your case approves the release of your property, follow the steps for FOUND/RECOVERED/SAFEKEEPING above.
  • If required, obtain a Court Order; bring the order (original with a red stamp) to the Palm Springs Police Department.  The Order will be routed through the detective to the Property Room.  The Property Technician will contact you when the property is ready for pick-up (this may take several days).

For FIREARMS:

PLEASE NOTE:  All firearms and their owners must be cleared through the Department of Justice prior to release.  You can access the necessary Department of Justice FORMS.

Please be aware, this can be a lengthy process.
