Palm Springs Police Department Receives Grant for Retail Security
Purpose:
The State Budget Act of 2022 (Senate Bill 154, Chapter 43, Statutes of 2022) established the Organized Retail Theft Prevention Grant Program. Funding is available to California city police departments, sheriff departments, and probation departments to support local law enforcement agencies in preventing and responding to organized retail theft, motor vehicle or motor vehicle accessory theft, or cargo theft.
The Palm Springs Police Department has received a portion of this grant to combat retail theft, auto theft, and catalytic converter theft. The funds will be used to purchase new technology and cameras, educate businesses, train personnel, implement anti-recidivism programs, and invest in other crime-fighting tools.
Some of the funding will be used to provide Palm Springs businesses with window security film to deter break-ins.
