Extreme heat events are becoming more and more common throughout the summer. As these events happen more often, it is important to protect yourself and your community from heat-related illnesses. Here are some tips on staying safe and cool during the hot summers:

  • Stay informed about weather trends and plan activities accordingly. (Local Weather)
  • Plan outdoor activities for the coolest times of the day such as morning, evening and night when possible.
  • Take frequent breaks and limit the duration of outdoor activities during summer heat.
  • Stay hydrated with water and avoid surgery, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.
  • Never leave children, elderly, disabled individuals or pets inside unattended vehicles.
  • If you are unable to escape the heat a Cooling Center may be an option for you.
