The Department of Transportation and the California Vehicle Code gives local authorities discretionary authority to issue special permits for the movement of vehicles/loads exceeding statutory limitations on the size, weight, and loading of vehicles contained in Division 15 of the California Vehicle Code. Requests for such special permits requires the completion of an application and payment for a Transportation Permit.

The permit application form can be found HERE. The applications are fillable PDF files. Please use the following procedures for submitting your City of Palm Springs Transportation Permit.

1. CHOOSE and CLICK on the desired application form.
2. DOWNLOAD it to your computer. You MUST do this for all the fields and items to work.
3. CLICK on PEMIT NO. and CHOOSE TODAY'S DATE.
4. FILL OUT the form as needed.
5. REVIEW THE FORM to make sure the correct permit trip type, amount due, signature and date are correct.
6. SAVE or PRINT the form for your records if desired.

PLEASE DO NOT PASSWORD PROTECT THE PDF FORM OR PRINT IT TO A NON-FILLABLE PDF. WE WILL RETURN THIS SAME FORM TO YOU WITH THE CITY'S OWN EDITS.

1. Once saved, follow the online steps for either single-trip applications or annual applications. Multiple applications can be uploaded on the attachments screen for convenience, even if they are for both annual & single-trip.

2. THE AGENCY WILL INVOICE THE APPLICANT FOR PAYMENT USING THE ONLINE SERVICE PORTAL.
3. AGENCY SIGNED PERMIT will be provided back to the applicant once complete.

THE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CENTER IS CLOSED EVERY FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. TRANSPORTATION PERMITS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED AFTER 5:30 PM ON THURSDAYS. BEFORE APPLYING FOR A TRANSPORTATION PERMIT, BE SURE TO CHECK THE ROUTE FOR OBSTRUCTIONS BY VISITING OUR STREET CLOSURES PAGE.
